The Mighty Abidragon! 5/21/2015

Note: This was a spontaneous event with little forewarning and required very little preparation/set up. I can assure you that all of our major events will be announced at least several days in advance.

The Mighty Abidragon, self proclaimed Overlord of all Dragons, attacked the Minax base tonight.

It was his intention to take over Minax and turn it into a home base for his world conquest.

The humans put up a pitiful defense. Abidragon gorged on their flesh but quickly came to the conclusion that:

The humans put up a resolute fight. They even received help from a wandering angel!

Ultimately Abidragon's son, Abison, made his appearance and the humans were plunged into a desperate fight for their lives. The flames were intense and their deaths many, yet they ultimately prevailed over Abidragon's host of dragons.

Henchmen System + Camping Firepit Preview

Hello again!

Just giving you guys a brief preview of the Henchmen System and the new Camping Firepit item.

Henchmen System
The basic concept behind the Henchman System is that it is very much a parallel to Animal Taming, however instead of taming creatures, you'll recruit NPCs to command and control. Controlling and managing your Henchmen followers utilizes all the same commands and mechanisms that exist for tamed creatures (all guard, all kill, all follow, etc), with a few notable exceptions:

Naval Henchmen relaxing in the Britain Docks Tavern

- Instead of using the Animal Taming and Animal Lore skills to control creatures, you instead use the Begging and Camping skills. Begging effectively represents your ability to "recruit" individuals, while "Camping" represents your ability to keep a group happy, safe, and supplied.

Henchmen Are Controlled With The Begging and Camping Skills

- Henchmen can only be recruited by utilizing Henchmen Recruitment Deeds and finding an individual you wish to recruit. These deeds are one of the common rewards of our upcoming Influence System, but Henchmen Deeds may eventually be found in other ways (events, rare drops, etc).

Recruiting Henchmen

As mentioned before, players utilize Henchman Recruitment Deeds to target individuals to recruit as followers. Most Henchmen will be found within the bounds of buildings that are linked into our upcoming Influence System. Players must have a total of at least 5 Influence within the building a Henchman resides in to be able to recruit them.

Player Must Have 5 Influence in The Building Where a Henchman Resides

To increase your Influence in a building high enough to recruit a Henchman, you must double click the blue Influence Marker sign outside the building.

An Influence Marker Sign

The player must then navigate to the "Influence This Building" page and then increase their Influence in the building via Prestige or via Investment until they have a cumulative total of 5 Influence at the location (for more details see the Influence System preview)

The Player's Influence at This Location

Once recruited via a Henchman Recruitment Deed, Henchmen are immediately bonded to the player and granted an immediate amount of Experience Points as indicated on the Henchmen Recruitment Deed.

However, each Henchman may be only be resurrected by Veterinary Salts up to 3 times in their lifetime. After the 3rd resurrection, they perish from the world entirely and the player will need to recruit another individual. Henchmen are healed via the Healing skill (and Anatomy), and therefore lend themselves very well to dexer template types.

Henchmen Have A Limitation of 3 Resurrections Upon Recruitment

Henchmen Categories
There are 4 distinct categories of Henchmen, however beyond the skill required to control them and the number of control slots of each individual, there are no restrictions on recruitment of particular types of Henchmen. A Murderer can recruit a noble squire, knight, or paladin, and a Paladin can recruit nerfarious bandits, mercenaries, or assassins. It's entirely up to the player to decide how they want to justify their role as leader of their followers.

Like tamed creatures, followers have a variety of different abilities and bonuses to differentiate themselves from each other. However, the general power level of Henchmen will be slightly lower than their Animal Taming skill level + control slots equivalents due to the overall difficulty required to make a tamer character. Nonetheless, they should be an exciting and interesting way to play.

Camping Firepit

We'll be introducing a new item called the Camping Fire Pit. Made with Blacksmithing, each Firepit comes with 10 charges and must be placed on the ground and activated. Once activated, the Firepit functions both as a normal campfire, cooking location, and additionally as a way to boost stat regeneration to all players and followers with in a large area. When activated, the Camping skill of the user determines the current "quality" of the campsite, with increasing regeneration bonuses conferred for high camping skill players.

Note: players with 0 camping skill can activate a camping fire pit, however the campsite will simply be listed as "poor" quality and only offer the minimum regeneration bonuses available.

A Camping Firepit Activated by a Player With Low Camping Skill

Each camping firepit activation will last 10 minutes before extinguishing and requiring another activation. However, to receive these regeneration bonuses, any player or creature must have not been in any form of combat within the last 10 seconds, and must not have been in any form of player-vs-player combat within the last 5 minutes. Players may only benefit from a single camping firepits at any one time, and the benefits of multiple camping firepits do not stack.

Camping Firepits are a nice way for a group of players setting up shop in a dungeon area to receive some boosted regeneration during fighting downtime, and synergizes quite well with a player utilizing Henchmen (due to their Camping skill requirement)

Video preview of Player Enhancements: Customizations and Spell Hues

Howdy folks!

Just previewing another system we have lined up for the very soon to be finished expansion.

Player Enhancements
Players will now be able to visually spice up and diversify their UO experience with what I like to call Player Enhancements. Player Enhancements come in two varieties: Customizations and Spell Hues.

Customizations and Spell Hues are shared across all characters on an account, and players can view and manage their unlocked Customizations and Spell Hues at Player Enhancement Stones, which will be located near the banks in each city.

Spell Hues
Players will now have the option to change the color of many of their spells to one of 6 different colors: Basic, Fiery, Icy, Earthy, Mystical, and Ghostly.

View Spell Hues Button

Players unlock individual hues for each spell separately, and do so by activating Spell Hue Deeds. Players will be able to purchase Spell Hue Deeds for all available spells in Fiery, Icy, and Earthy hue varieties with dragon coins at the Donation Shop. Spell Hue Deeds will also drop as loot from monsters, events, and other gameplay mechanics, with two unique Hues, Ghostly and Mystical, only occuring as loot drops.

Players can unlock all hues for each individual spell, however they can only have a single hue activated for a spell at a time. To change the hue of a spell, players use a Player Enhancement stone (near any bank) and from the View Spells page, click on the unlocked (blue diamond) under the relevant Spell and Hue listing.

Once unlocked and marked as active (box is checked), the spell will taken on the selected hue.

Customizations differ from Spell Hues in that they are always available for purchase, and by default do not drop as loot. From the Customization Button on the Player Enhancement Main Gump, players can navigate through the available Customizations. Again, Customizations are shared across all characters on your account.

The vast majority of Customizations adds some fun visual affects, sounds, or animations to an aspect of the game, but a few of them offer some conveniences for players (such as the 6th character on account, and 150 item bank box). None of the Customizations will, however, offer players any particular advantages in PvP or PvM: they are merely meant to be fun ways to show off and diversify the look and feel of the game.

Selecting a Customization To Purchase and Unlock

Players purchasing a Customization will be given a confirmation prompt before finalizing a purchase. Upon purchase, the Customization will automatically be enabled. Players can at any time disable a particular Customization they have unlocked by deselecting it from the Customization Gump via the Player Enhancement Stone.

Carnage Customization is Unlocked and Activated

I'm currently finishing up the code on a good number of the Customizations listed on here, however we may change up some of the gold prices / availability of particular offerings in the next several weeks. The Carnage Customization will absolutely be available however :P
